Marie’s Thoughts

It’s been a while…

by Marie Fahnert

OrangeGirlCake_optIt has been a while since my last blog post. I was redesigning my website. It took a lot of effort. I think it was worth it.

My new law firm website is more in-depth than the old one, it contains:

Please take a look at my Divorce Lawyers in Chicago website and tell me what you think!

Yesterday I went to the Annual Dinner for the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois at the Chicago Hilton. We were there, among other things, to celebrate the installation of the new president.

One of the speakers told us about a lady whose flowers bloomed for 50+ years after she planted them. She urged us to remember that our good deeds will continue to bloom for a long time to come. The speeches given by the other women were equally inspiring.

I was not originally intending to attend this Annual Dinner. These kinds of events are generally attended by larger law firms – not solo practitioners like me. Thus, I was happy to receive an invitation by the lawyers of a Chicago personal injury law firm to join them for the Dinner.

As inspiring as the speeches were, I feel that the most inspiring part of the evening were the lawyers in the audience. These men and women took time off from their busy schedules to support female lawyers.

There are many reasons why women are not well represented at the top of the legal profession. It can feel that those at the top are closing ranks. Sometimes this may be true. However, there are many people (not just women) who are working toward establishing a future of equality. In a way, it is like the story above, the seeds planted today will bloom for a long time to come.

Conclusion: I see a bright future.

FatherAndSon_opt Yesterday a commenter named Beverly admonished me for my failure to note the family law consequences of naming your child Test. Here is an excerpt from the comment:

“The more important question is–Who would name their kid Test? … a parent who would name their child Test may not be taking parenthood too seriously…in a divorce case this parent may look like some kind of Dummy.”

Thank you, Beverly, for your thoughtful legal commentary.

Professor Test Dummy no longer has a job at Berkley's Law School. We know this because he is no longer listed in the faculty profile webpage.

At the end of April, the Professor was listed under "D" in Boalt Hall's faculty profile page:

Now, however, after a blogger did an exposé on him, Professor Dummy can no longer be found among the distinguished faculty.

Weird lawyer video

by Marie Fahnert

This has to be the weirdest lawyer video ever. I like it but have no idea what it is about. I would be intrigued to meet the people who made the video. Is this the idea? "Come for an initial consultation out of curiosity and then we'll convince you to hire us."

Thanks to Lowering the Bar for bringing it to my attention.
